A Winner for God

Reading: Psalm 118:5-10

Have you ever played a game where you had to be on a team, like baseball or football or kickball? Have you ever had to be chosen for a team?

Sometimes when people choose teams, they try to choose the biggest and strongest people for their team. If you had to make up your own football team or kickball team, whom would you choose to be on it?

Today’s psalm tells us that GOD is on our side in this world. Isn’t that a wonderful thought? Even if it was just us and God, we would still be the strongest team! Even if every single person in the world was on the other team, and we stood alone for God, we would still be winners!

For Further Study:

  • Psalm 118:6 is quoted in Hebrews 13:6. Read Hebrews 13:5-6. What do these verses teach us about being content and not worrying about money?

  • Even though we would be winners standing alone with God, He did bless us with a whole “team” to go through this life with: His church. Who else in your life is on God’s
team? According to the world’s standards, are these always the biggest, fastest, and strongest people? Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. God’s team is made up of the humble, the lowly, and those who want to serve others.

  • When you hear the word “victory,” what do you think about? Using a concordance and/or the internet, do a search in the Bible for the words “win” and “victory.” What kind of “win” does the child of God want to have in life?
